If you are using row crops, there is no reason the rows need to be linear, you can design a non linear garden. Cane wigwam will support pole beans, onions and vegetables are growing in circular plantings.Image and text from Old Moss Woman's Secret Garden.

One year we had our plans all drawn up to make a Native American Wheel Garden. We did our research, staked out the area, did all the manual labor and when we were all finished instead of looking like a Medicine Wheel.....it looked like a classroom full of preschoolers planted a bunch of stuff then ran over it with tricycles. Now I just throw those plants in the ground and hope for the best.
