Heavenly Messages For December 2013
December 1, 2013
Dear Friends – Welcome to Holiday Season 2013!
It’s always hard to believe an entire year is almost gone yet the calendar says it’s so. When faced with this realization it helps to keep in mind that time is a fluid being – it is only human insistence on linear time which convinces us otherwise. The astrology of this December is anything but linear. Often in December bright, bouncy Sagittarius energy prevails, not so this year. There is a Willy Wonka cosmic candy cane swirling one way, then another. Libra, Aries, Taurus and Capricorn get the holiday cake. Read about it all below and check out the Sagittarius message for insight affecting us all.
One thing for sure on December 1st is the Sun always shines merrily in fire sign Sagittarius. Jupiter largest planet in the solar system rules Sagittarius, which lends Large energy to this optimistic, outgoing sign. The Centaur, half horse/half man, is the symbol for Sagittarius who gallops with gusto through life and eventually taps his inner wise sage.
When born with Sun in Sagittarius you are learning more trust, to have faith that all will be well. You are meant to recognize positive opportunities when they come your way and have the pluck and drive to grab them and go! Sagittarians crave freedom and are the truth speakers of the zodiac who learn at a young age to speak truth to power. The best do it with a cheerful, upbeat attitude which gets their points across easily, even to people who disagree. Sagittarius is the natural born teacher who rises above petty ego concerns and freely spreads knowledge. It is one of the most positive energies going!
These quotes from well known Sun in Sagittarius natives reflect this uplifting energy:
Do you really want to look back on your life and see how wonderful it could have been had you not been afraid to live it? ~ Carolyn Myss
I am here to seduce you into a love of life; to help you to become a little more poetic; to help you die to the mundane and to the ordinary so that the extraordinary explodes in your life.~ Osho
And this one so appropriate to December’s astro theme:
Either you repeat the same conventional doctrines everybody is saying, or else you say something true, and it will sound like it’s from Neptune. ~ Noam Chomsky
In this wonder-filled month of holiday celebrations, I hope the extraordinary explodes in your life and wish a merry, merry, happy, happy whatever you celebrate be it Hanukkah, Solstice, Christmas, Kwanzaa or just the pure joy of life – may you and yours be blessed at this time and in all times!
Best,
Melissa

The key concept for December’s astrology is strange. No one is left out – each sign gets sugar plum presents along with gifts you’d rather return but can’t. December’s holidays are a time of family gatherings. This year mighty Jupiter, largest planet of all and ruler of December’s Sagittarius Sun, moves backward in Cancer the very sign which rules home and family. Lord of Karma Saturn remains in ruthlessly compassionate Scorpio and on 12/1 is conferencing with Moon in Scorpio about who has been naughty or nice. Sweetie pie Venus moves warily in stiletto heeled Capricorn getting ready for her own back-up phase on 12/21, which is also the day of the Winter Solstice. Warrior Mars enters peaceful Libra, the opposite sign he rules, and is also slowing down in prep for his own retro phase. Revolutionary Uranus in hot headed Aries has been drowsy for 5 months during his reverse motion, but wakes up in mid December with his hand on the trigger. Meanwhile Nebulous Neptune and Centaur Chiron are refocusing their Piscean mission of thinning the veils of “normal” reality to reveal multi-dimensional existence. Ho, Ho, Ho.
The Moon rules public emotions and on 12/1 Saturn and the Moon meet together in intense Scorpio. They both reach out to Jupiter retrograde in Cancer reprising the healing water triangle in the heavens active since July. The idea of “healing” has many levels and often requires acute discomfort before a cure is achieved. Jupiter in family oriented Cancer indicates the gift of this trine is highlighted family and security issues. Disasters like massive killer typhoon Hayian in the Philippines and the “worst in a century” Midwestern storm system which spawned tornadoes like Dorothy never saw, are beyond tragic. Yet they bring front and center what is most important in life, the healing support of family and community. Whether we are personally affected or not, these values are splashed across our TV screens and other media sources to remind us of this precious fact.
The last time Jupiter was in Cancer – summer 2001 thru summer 2002, the events of 9/11 happened. For one brief moment after this tragedy people across the world came together with an outpouring of love which outweighed evil. Unfortunately this high wave of good intentions which could have changed the world forever, quickly dissipated into business as usual. Many people sensed this was the ultimate tragedy: a chance for a true paradigm shift slipped away. In fact many healers I know believe illnesses and symptoms which they have been seeing in the last few months are directly related to energetic, emotional releases from the trauma of that time. This is an example of the acute healing power of this cosmic wave. Resistance creates more illness and depression, so the best choice is to release and go with the flow until you reach the other side.
On 12/7 Mars enters Libra for the first time since July 2012. Mars rules Aries and Venus-Ruled Libra is the opposite sign. Mars = action and Libra is the lover not the fighter. The testosterone in Mars is uncomfortable in this elegant, laid back sign, but Mars in Libra puts energy into the arts and culture. Mars/Libra is the artist, diplomat, peace keeper and general all round charmer. Here are some famous personalities born with Mars in Libra so you get the idea: The Dalai Lama, Nelson Mandela, Anais Nin, Pope Francis, John Lennon, Nicole Kidman.
Mars takes 2 years to go around the zodiac wheel and once during that span turns retrograde, which is less often than any other planet. Mars goes retro next year in March but is beginning to slow down in preparation. Mars usually travels in a sign for around 6-8 weeks, but when retro stays the same amount of months. This Mars/Libra transit is close to 8 months – from 12/7/13 through 7/25/14. That’s a lot of time to pack rammy Mars into one sign, especially one ruled by his femme counterpart Venus.
For the last few weeks Mars and Venus have been working well with each other. Mars has been in pragmatic Virgo since mid October and Venus has been in ‘adult in the room’ Capricorn a complimentary earth sign since 11/5. On 11/24 Iran and six major world powers including the US reached a historic deal that freezes key parts of Iran’s nuclear program. Certainly seems like a positive step forward, in terms of world peace and most especially for average Iranian citizens who have been suffering under austere sanctions. This is the first time the US and Iran have engaged at this level of diplomacy since the Iranian Revolution in 1979.
When Mars enters Libra it begins to activate a different energy toward Venus in Capricorn eventually forming several challenging squares in January and February next year, with an exact 90° angle on March 2nd just as Mars goes retrograde. (That same day Saturn goes retro too, and a few days later Jupiter goes direct – March should be an interesting month!)
Mars rules war and aggression while Libra rules peace and diplomacy. Capricorn represents bureaucracy and entrenched status quo. It’s interesting to see this theme already engaged as the Iranian deal is bitterly denounced by Israel and other middle eastern countries along with some members of US Congress. In addition the “bilateral security agreement” the US is negotiating with Afghanistan appears to be stalled, and the US along with Japan are testing boundaries with China’s recently declared “air defense identification zone” in the East China Sea. This zone includes a group of islands claimed by Japan, China and Taiwan and also a big underwater rock claimed by S. Korea (it’s true look it up) and the US is currently flying war planes into this territory. Tense energy for sure. Can the testosterone be tamed?
Venus is also slowing down now in preparation for her retrograde period on 12/21. Venus only reverses once in 18-20 months (last time was 5/15 through 6/27/12). This is less often compared to all other planets except Mars which goes retrograde every 24 months. Venus entered Capricorn on 11/5 and goes retrograde at 29° Capricorn on 12/21 before going direct at 13° Cap on 1/31/14. She’ll continue her travels in Capricorn until 3/5/14, 4 months versus the normal 4 weeks.
Planet Venus is named after the goddess of love and harmony and astrologically Venus rules relationships and all heart-related affairs. She also governs cultural affairs, things which add grace and beauty to life – the arts, music, dance, theater, etc. along with peace and diplomacy, and is connected to women and women’s interest in general. Venus also represents the attracting/ magnetic principle and indicates social values in general. When Venus does her backward dance relationship issues come up for review. Old loves drift back into your heart or even into your living arms! Venus is the ruler of both Taurus and Libra so these signs tend to be more affected by Venus retro. I posted an article on Venus Retrograde HERE so you can read more about it, and to understand how it affects your personal sign see your Individual Messages. For more complete information on the meaning of retrograde planets in general here is a good article by astrologer Lynnn Koiner
Venus in calculating Capricorn can be harsh, like a powerful woman who learned to play in a man’s world to succeed and has forgotten her gentler side in the process. In terms of larger themes this Venus/Capricorn retro period plays into the peace and diplomacy issues already mentioned. It also highlights austerity measures being undertaken in so many countries which primarily hurt families, specifically woman and children. The US Govt. shutdown ended on 10/17, but the never-ending fiscal battles in Congress will rekindle when funding ends yet again on January 15th right in the midst of Venus retro. Does this mean women and families will continue to get a tiny slice of the budget pie while military/war funding gets the plum piece? Perhaps Mars in Libra, whose symbol is the balanced scales, may find his heart and help Venus out. Time will tell.
Uranus is in astro news this month too, going direct on 12/17 after a five month retro period. Uranus is the revolutionary Structure Buster who breaks open outmoded concepts to bring in the fresh air of cutting edge thinking. Uranus functions with lightning swiftness, jumping coyote-like out of the bushes when least expected. Uranus’ astrological function is enlightenment and represents inspired thinking and intuitive insight. Uranus is one of the outer planets and as such represents larger, more universal themes rather than personal ones in its cosmic movements. Uranus rules Aquarius, so Aquarians perk up and feel charged again for the future.
Uranus takes 84 years to travel the entire zodiac wheel and currently is stationed in Aries. Uranus went retro at 12° on 7/17 and goes direct at 8° Aries on 12/17. If you were born from March 29 through April 2 you will once again sense a difference in your life as Uranus regains his charge across your Sun sign. It is time for you to wake up and become enlightened once and for all! If you have natal Moon or other significant planets from 8-12° Aries you’ll sense a shift too, and if your ascendant is in this Aries span you will definitely feel Uranus’ electric impulses affecting your life. Look for expanded awareness to become more natural especially when you embrace it!
Uranus rules revolutionary change and Aries is the very first sign in the zodiac – a pioneering fire sign ruled by warrior Mars. Uranus wakes up from his groggy retro-nap on 12/17 to find his hand on a hot Aries trigger. Not long after on 12/25 – Christmas Day, Mars and Uranus form an exact 180° opposition. Oppositions are like see-saws, it’s the heavy kid who pulls the other one to his side. So let’s see, Coyote Uranus is in trigger happy Aries, while Warrior Mars, ruler of Aries, is in peace loving Libra…hummm who is the heaviest kid? To make matters more interesting this face-off creates a tense T-Sqaure to Transformer Pluto in Capricorn, reactivating the now famous Cardinal Cross hanging in the heavens for 3 + years. To resolve this type of challenge action is required. Personally I am hoping love of peace, versus love of power, is the heaviest principle prevailing, that would be a nice Christmas gift!
In the midst of all this cosmic commotion the Winter Solstice (Summer in the Southern hemisphere) arrives as it has for millennia. This Solstice is when the Sun enters Capricorn and marks the shortest day in the Northern Hemisphere – the exact moment when the wheel of the seasons turns. In the darkest part of the year the light begins its return and the days ever so subtly lengthen one by one. Throughout human history important religious celebrations have occurred at this auspicious time, as they still do today.
Winter Solstice 2013 is on 12/21 at 12:11p ET. This is also the day when Venus goes retrograde at 4:53p just a few hours after the Solstice arrives. I’ll be posting more about the astrology of the Solstice closer to the actual date, so stay tuned for that.
This brings me to another cosmic note sounding this December which comes from Neptune and Chiron, both moving forward again in mystical Pisces. One of the most frequent things I’ve heard lately from so many people I work and interact with is their feeling of how “unreal” things seem. Older folks think it’s personal, their “senior moments” of forgetfulness, but I assure them that even the 20 somethings I talk to also report feeling spacy, losing sense of where/who they are, with time speeding up or slowing down.
Neptune’s satellite dish action tunes into rarefied wavelengths, and Pisces, which Neptune rules, contains the highest vibration of all. Chiron, the healer, acts like a key waiting to be turned into this beautiful Piscean realm. After long retro periods, both these heavenly bodies began moving forward last month. Once again they concentrate on their mission to help us realize time does not really exist, and although we are focused in one “reality”, there are many more levels interacting simultaneously which we can perceive if we pierce the veil.
As if on cue the week between Neptune and Chiron going direct, I was fortunate to run into an artist friend of mine I had not seen in some time who showed me “inter-dimensional” photographs she had taken. Even with an understanding of this current Piscean energy, my mind was totally blown away by what I saw! You can read more about these amazing photos HERE .And if you live near the Pocono Mts. in PA you can watch a presentation of these photos by Christina Whited at the Pocono Community Theater on Dec. 7th. Find details HERE
I hope you soar through many dimensions this December like a bounding Sagittarius Centaur and find delight in them all, then spread the cheer!
IMAGE NOTE: I chose this print of Centaur Chiron by Jennifer Cox for two reasons. First because the Centaur is the symbol for Sagittarius. Second because this lovely image of Chiron reflects this year’s softer Sagittarius energy so well expressed in Jennifer’s description of her print: ” Chiron was unique among centaurs. He was compassionate, wise and skilled. Even the gods revered him and placed him among the stars when he chose to free another instead to preserve himself. ” Jennifer has the Dancing Heron shop in Portland, OR with “art and design that bridges East and West traditions with a variety of mediums. ” See the original print at Dancing Heron’s ETSY site and find more information on Dancing Heron Illustration HERE

December 1st - as an aside, I had a reading with Melissa a couple of weeks ago and it was wonderful! I heartily recommend her. Her insight was right on and her Georgia accent was beyond soothing. Plus I LOVED the Tarot cards she pulled for me.
I think you would be pleased with what she has to tell you!
You will receive a package of information, including a CD of the recorded session.
