I saw evidence:
El Raton in mi casa!
Future calaca...
Yuk. There is no Bienvenidos for this little guy. He is not welcome and the trap goes out today. Not to worry - it's a "Havahart" trap which I've used once before, with success, to remove the unwanted, albeit cute, critter from a friend's place.
I'll release the little one in the woods where it will have to learn, once again, how to live in the Wild Kingdom. I am sure that Millie's food, which she scatters like a child tossing out chicken feed, is part of the lure for El Raton. I'm not sure how the little guy got in, but if there's a way, El Raton will find it.
I understand that mice hate the smell of peppermint and I just happen to have a bottle of peppermint essential oil which will now be put to good use. My pantry should smell wonderful, but I'll have to remember to remove the saturated cotton pads from the stove before I turn on a burner - no need to set the house on fire to get rid of El Raton! If that doesn't work, I was reading that something called Fresh Cab really does work - that will be the next line of defense. I simply cannot and will not use poison.
Wish me Buena Suerte!

You'll put him out to the wilderness, so he can search and creatively find his way back in later. It's okay, part of the life cycle. Wonder if the rodent knows he is partn of creative poetry. (Also wondering why I made it masculine, oh well) Fun post today. Nice work.

I know, Spadoman - these little critters are smart and can find their way back to places where it's warm and where there's food!
DeleteHa, we have a live trap set for the same thing right now! Casey saw it scurrying along the edges of walls downstairs. So far no luck, but I also think it may have found its way back outside. I will try the peppermint oil too ... although I have no idea where it came in! The trap was handy outside for catching the cute little "chick-munks" that were trying to burrow in under the house too. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteHahaha - chick munks! I've only seen one of them in our little town and that's because a friend up the street took a picture of it and sent it to me!
DeleteI haven't seen my little one, but that trap is still going to be in use, especially since the temp was 35 this morning when I took Kylie out. All I need is the entire family staying for the duration of the cold weather!
delphyne,
ReplyDeleteyour calaca and haiku have given me a burst of laughter this morning!!
enjoying your humor and truly sorry about the uninvited company.
Thanks, Rebecca - I had fun writing it even though my discovery of the evidence was somewhat horrifying!
DeleteSo endearing your calaca and means to send him/her on her way ~ not a 'room mate' you need ~ fun haiku ~ wishing for you whatever you wish for yourself this weekend. (A Creative Harbor) ^_^
ReplyDeleteThanks, ArtMustDog and Carol! The mouse in the picture was the one I trapped at my friend's house - the one in my place is still at large in spite of the "Wanted" posters I put out!
DeleteThanks for visiting!
Oh, how clever, I laughed out loud reading your haiku! I'm so glad you used a live trap, and I hope the little critter will find a nice home in the woods!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Karen - the woods are lovely, but there are owls, foxes and hawks that would love a tasty morsel like El Raton! But, it's to the woods it is when I trap the little guy!
DeleteThanks for visiting!
Very cute! LA calaca LOVE
ReplyDeleteThanks, gma!
DeleteThis is really great! Your haiku and image, not the mouse (rat) in the house! These little guys are "Houdinis" in how they can fit their bones through the tiniest of openings... Do you think you can teach Millie to meow like a cat???
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lea - you're right about being Houdini like! I've seen them make themselves FLAT like a pancake - real contortionists!
DeleteMillie isn't one of those parrots that talks like crazy - she whistles and that's pretty much it. I got her from a neighbor when she was 4 and he wanted to get rid of her so that he could get a dog instead. She's now 18 and came with me on the plane from SF. She's quite a character!
Cute Millie! Cute calaca raton! Not cute is el raton!
ReplyDeleteAdriana
Thanks, Adriana - mice are cute when they're outside and not in my house!
Deletei love your calaca rat! and Millie is beautiful....
ReplyDeleteThanks, Joanne! Millie is a lovely parrot and she knows it, too! She's told me that she is the most magnificent parrot that The Big Lady (Mother Nature) ever created!
Deleteoh yuck... good luck... unintentional rhyme.
ReplyDelete:-), Laura!
DeleteI haven't had to make that choice in years, i have mice killing cats.....
ReplyDeleteI'd borrow one of them if you lived nearby!
DeleteThanks for visiting, Fallingladies!
I understand have-a-heart traps, but I have no heart when it comes to mice!
ReplyDeleteInstead of Poppies
I don't mind mice, just not in my house....I only want invited creatures here.
DeleteLovely hiaku you've written!
Mice etc. belong in the woods... so happy you are sending him back! Nice light hearted (in many ways) haiku!
ReplyDeleteI agree, Barbara!
DeleteThanks for visiting!!
